August 1, 2009 Dear Parents, Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year at Our Lady of Mercy Academy. I hope this letter finds you well. Throughout the summer we have been working to prepare for the new school year, as we strive to continue providing the highest level of programs and services to our students. School opens for the faculty on September 2nd with a workshop on the Everyday Mathematics Program. All students (including Pre-S/K) begin school on September 3rd. Our goals for this year are that our school continues to hold high standards and expectations. As a school community, I know that we share this commitment to excellence and will continue working together in providing a quality program based on current research and best practices. A few staff changes occurred this summer. Mrs. Irene Dourdoulakis and Mrs. Lara Rouillard have chosen to become full time moms, a very noble endeavor. Mrs. Imelda McShane will replace Mrs. Irene and Mrs. Mary Lou McGrath will step in for Mrs. Rouillard, in the grade 7 homeroom/language arts block for grades 5-6-7. We are delighted to welcome them as well as Mrs. Maura Smith, who will teach grade 4 and Carissa Baker our new physical education teacher. We wish Mrs. Irene and Mrs. Rouillard great happiness and God’s blessings. Below you will find information that will assist you as you prepare for the start of the school year. School Hours and a.m. Drop off Classroom instruction begins at 8:15 for grades K-7 and 8:40 for Pre-S/K. All students (including Pre-S/K) are to be dropped off at the Eden Lane door (side door). This is a change from the past. Pre S/K only will be dropped off at 8:30 and picked up at the Eden Lane door at 2:30. We ask that beginning on Tuesday, September 8th, you please drop your child off at the door and not enter the school. Myself or a teacher will be stationed there to greet them and see them into the school. Instruction is occurring in other classes during this time and we wish to eliminate any hallway distractions. If there is a change in your child’s dismissal/pickup a note must be submitted to the office. Being on time for school is very important. Please make every effort to have your children at school on time. Please note that in order to keep our children safe and secure we require that everyone entering the building during school hours, must use the front (Whippany Rd.) door. Uniforms The complete school uniform, including regulation shoes, is required apparel this year. Students are expected to dress according to the school uniform policy. If you ordered shoes, they can be picked up on Tuesday, August 11th from 10:00 – 2:00 or Thursday, August 13th from 3:00 – 7:00. Shoes can also be ordered during the above noted dates and times. Lunch Information regarding school lunches will be sent home within the first two weeks of school. This year we will be offering cookies at $.50 each. Calendar/Handbook The complete 2009-2010 school calendar and handbook will be sent home with your child during the first week of school. Wednesday Envelopes This year we are reinstating the Wednesday Envelope. All school correspondence will be sent home on Wednesdays with one child in each family. We believe this will eliminate lost and/or “buried” school information. The staff worked very hard this summer to make certain that the children will have a wonderful school year. At Back to School Night (September 23rd) you will have the opportunity to meet with the teachers, find out valuable information about curriculum and specific topics, and get to know your child’s schedule and routines. I hope that each of you enjoy the remaining days of summer. I am looking forward to a great year.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Ventola |
